Unique Computer Pathways

Interested in computers and computer science?

We are delighted to announce two new computer-oriented pathways that are now offered to Littleton High School students, in partnership with Arapahoe Community College.  By taking advantage of designated computer technology and networking courses taught at ACC, you can pursue your interest in computers while you're in high school...and get high school AND college credit AND and an industry-recognized certification at the same time.

LHS Juniors and Seniors can choose between two different course sequences at ACC that will result not only in credit, but will also prepare them to take an industry-recognized exam to earn a certificate in either A+ or Network+ (for more info on COMP TIA A+ certification click here, for COMP TIA Network+ certification click here).  The course sequences are outlined below.  Each course listed will count as one STEM elective.

Computer Technician Sequence:
  • Interest areas:
    • Computer repair and servicing
    • Software and operating systems
    • Network administration
    • Desktop computer diagnosis and troubleshooting
  • ACC Courses:
    • CNG 121 - Computer Technician I: A+ (4 high school and college credits)
    • CNG 122 - Computer Technician II: A+ (4 high school and college credits)
    • CNG 120 - Certification Preparation: A+ (4 high school and college credits)
  • Courses are taught both fall and spring semesters.  CNG 122 is taught the first half of each semester, while CNG 120 is taught the second half of each semester. Courses must be taken in the following order: CNG 121, CNG 122, CNG 120. Students are encouraged to complete both Intro to Computer Science and Computer Science 2 at LHS prior to taking CNG 121.
  • Tuition is fully covered through a combination of students' College Opportunity Fund and funding through Littleton Public Schools.
  • Costs which are not covered include:
    • Simulation software package: $119 (2014-15)
    • A+ certification exam: $178 (2014-15)
    • Transportation costs to ACC.  Transportation is not provided by LHS/LPS.

Computer Networking Sequence:
  • Interest areas:
    • Manage and maintain computer networks
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot networks
    • Install and configure computer networks
    • Network support
  • ACC Courses:
    • CNG 124 - Networking I:  Network+ (3 high school and college credits)
    • CNG 125 - Networking II: Network+ (3 high school and college credits)
  • Courses are taught both fall and spring semesters.  CNG 124 is a prerequisite for CNG 125. Students are encouraged to complete both Intro to Computer Science and Computer Science 2 at LHS prior to taking CNG 124.
  • Tuition is fully covered through a combination of students' College Opportunity Fund and funding through Littleton Public Schools.
  • Costs which are not covered include:
    • Simulation software package: $167 (2014-15 costs, subject to change for 2015-16)
    • Network+ certification exam: $139 (2014-15 costs, subject to change for 2015-16)
    • Transportation costs to ACC.  Transportation is not provided by LHS/LPS.
With one or both of these two industry certifications, you'll be employable!  Companies across the Denver Metro area (and across the nation) commonly hire A+ and Network+ certified personnel.  Certified students may be able to earn money while in high school and beyond.
