Pre-kindergarten

2023-2024 Preschool Registration Update for children who will attend preschool the year before entering kindergarten

Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) will fund at least 10 hours per week of high-quality, voluntary preschool for every child in Colorado for the year before entering Kindergarten. While this is exciting news for our families, the state’s procedure for registering students is still being finalized and does not align with LPS’ current preschool registration timelines. Therefore, LPS will have a two-step process for preschool registration this year. The first part of the process will be to complete the online universal preschool registration form, which will be available mid-January, 2023. Once matched to an LPS preschool, families will then need to complete the registration process for the district and the preschool. Please find more information on the LPS website.

Pre-K Program

Welcome! We are pleased that you are inquiring about our Pre-K Program. We would love to answer any questions you may have or to schedule a tour. Contact the Pre-K Program Director, Aimee Dierking, for more information. We look forward to meeting you!

Our Pre-K Philosophy: to develop a love of learning and provide children with a basic foundation for their future education at LPCS and beyond. This will be accomplished by having high-quality curriculum, emphasizing literacy, math and science. Utilizing the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence, children will be able to learn in a hands-on, positive and FUN environment where they are nurtured and loved.

In the classrooms and in all our work and play we strive to promote a love of learning. Our staff are focused on making sure that children are developing at their own pace and in turn are ready for Kindergarten. We strive to make sure that each child is engaged, eager and challenged for the lesson, but not stressed and fearful of the learning. Teachers plan lessons to help the children with fine and gross motor skills, peer interactions, social/emotional development, as well as academic growth.

We provide a loving and caring classroom where everyone is welcome. We have 2 teachers in each classroom and class size is limited to 16 students. These low student/teacher ratios allow us to get to know each individual child and develop a strong relationship and make lasting connections with them.

We are a full day program running 8:00-3:10. We have developed a schedule that promotes free play and choices, group activities, recess, snack time and rest time that is spread out and gives teachers the ability to not rush through the day. We do not want a child to not learn or do that one last project because we ran out of time. The rest period after lunch and recess allow the children to rest, sleep if it is needed, and recharge their batteries. Soft music or stories on cd are played for those who are up for relaxation and allow for down time.
