Thanks to the generous support of LPS voters, construction is complete on the new Dr. Justina Ford Elementary School to serve the southeast corner of the district (on the previous Ames Facility campus). This new neighborhood school serves an area of LPS where many young families are buying homes and where current students were bussed out of their neighborhood to other LPS elementary schools. The new elementary school serves these students in their own neighborhood.
Dr. Justina Ford Elementary School provides the appropriate space for small and large group instruction, creativity and innovation. It includes new playgrounds, playing fields and parking to serve the neighborhood. Dr. Justina Ford Elementary School opened this fall for the 2021–2022 school year.
(December 2022) Received documents for miscellaneous concrete work to be done during the summer 2023. Working on procuring modular.
(November 2022) Revised sidewalk drawing has been received and will be submitted to the City of Centennial to mitigate standing water. Replacement of ribbon concrete in the front entrance is scheduled for weekend work this month.
(October 2022) Working with the City of Centennial on revised sidewalk entry to the school (issues when it rains with the amount of standing water in the crosswalk). Plans are underway to make sure students aren't walking through standing water at the designated crosswalk, which will likely mean relocating the crosswalk.
(August 2022) Sidewalk at bus loop is scheduled to be completed prior to the start of school. Warranty landscaping replacements are complete. Concrete crack patching/sealing is complete. The City of Centennial wants to re-visit drainage at the school's main entry intersection.
(April 2022) Some phase 2 work taking place over the summer: concreate replacement in places with cracks, movement, or heaving (this is part of warranty). Seal coat for parking lot, bus loop expansion, and air curtain work are also scheduled for this summer.
(March 2022) There have been some noise complaints related to one of the boiler valves and some of the rooftop HVAC unit valves. Replacement valves are scheduled to be completed this month. Projects scheduled for the summer include rain garden protection, warranty concrete replacement, seal coat for parking lot, bus loop expansion, and air curtain. Currently, pricing for extra furniture for first and second grade is being investigated; looking for available furniture elsewhere in the district.
(January 2022) Glazing at the front entrance took place over winter break. Caulking and metal work continues. Coordination with the City of Centennial concerning the bus lane is ongoing.
(December 2021) Workroom is complete; stairwell wainscotting is still in progress. Front entry security glazing will take place over winter break. Remaining design changes (air curtain, raingarden, bus lane expansion) are in progress.
(November 2021) Thanksgiving week will see some work on the school: design changes to the workroom, stairwell wainscotting, gym floor sealant, and installation of climbing equipment. Bus loop expanstion and a shade structure work are ongoing.
(August 2021) Mechanical equipment continues to be calibrated. Mass notification systems have been tested and are ready. The gym floor needed to be refinished, and that has been completed and is in review. Landscaping is wrapping up, and cleaning up of the construction site will be completed by the start of school. The sod field will be open in late August. The building is ready for students!
(May 12, 2021) Concrete, asphalt, grading, irrigation, and landscaping work continue. Rubber surfacing for all playgrounds has been poured. Exterior masonry, metal panels, and roof punch list is scheduled. Site perimeter fence will begin soon, and neighbors have been contacted about this. Inside the school, work progresses on mechanical, IT, and plumbing systems. Flooring, final coats of paint, wood ceilings, and wainscot installations are progressing. Acoustic panels and markerboards are being installed. Millwork is being installed in the media center. The gym flooring has been installed; striping and sealing are in progress.
The construction of the new elementary school at Ames is a pivotal piece of the bond program, and it is important to get started right away. In order to place the new school, playgrounds, play fields and parking in the locations that best fit the neighborhood, the current Ames facility will be scraped to prepare the campus for new construction. Therefore, programs currently being served in the Ames Facility will be moving to their new location or to a temporary location until their new permanent home is ready.
All programs serving students will be relocated by June 2019:
