Thanks to the generous support of LPS voters, work is underway to build a new elementary school to serve the southeast corner of the district on the current Ames Facility campus. This new neighborhood school will serve an area of LPS where many young families are buying homes and where current students must be bussed out of their neighborhood to other LPS elementary schools. The new elementary school will serve these students in their own neighborhood.
The new school will naturally solve some of the district’s attendance boundary and transportation issues. It will provide the appropriate space for small and large group instruction, creativity and innovation. It will include new playgrounds, playing fields and parking to serve the neighborhood.
(July 28, 2020) Construction began in spring 2020. Underground electrical and plumbing work, site grading, first floor foundations and concrete slabs, masonry, and steel work are all progressing. Site infrastructure, including water and stormwater systems, will be starting soon, and procurement of materials is on schedule.
The construction of the new elementary school at Ames is a pivotal piece of the bond program, and it is important to get started right away. In order to place the new school, playgrounds, play fields and parking in the locations that best fit the neighborhood, the current Ames facility will be scraped to prepare the campus for new construction. Therefore, programs currently being served in the Ames Facility will be moving to their new location or to a temporary location until their new permanent home is ready.
All programs serving students will be relocated by June 2019:
