Academic Excellence

 

Powell Middle School has a storied tradition of academic excellence.  Students who complete their middle level educational experience at Powell have gone on to succeed at our local high schools.  Over the last decade:

  • Powell can boast 125 students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program with 23 National Merit Semifinalists and 6 National Merit Finalists!
  • Seven Powell students have earned the Boettcher Scholarship – this is Colorado’s highest scholarship recognition!
  • Powell has had  more than 10 students earn Valedictorian/Salutatorian honors at their respective high schools
  • Powell has consistently been rated as an “Excellent” school according to the Colorado Department of Education and can boast some of the highest scores on standardized tests in South-Metro Denver!
  • Powell is a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Powell has been named a Colorado Trailblazer School to Watch.
  • Nearly 90% of our parent community agree that Powell has met their student’s academic needs.
  • Powell has an average daily attendance that exceeds 96%! Good attendance is a crucial component of academic success.
  • National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) has a strong presence here at Powell and is active in supporting our students and our community.

 

In addition to strong programs in the core subjects (Science, Social Studies, Math and Language Arts), we offer Accelerated Courses in Math and LA, and the largest number of elective programs offered in LPS middle schools.  Electives offered for 2023-24 include:
