Math Placement

  • For in-district students, we will rely on an internal process for math placement. For out-of-district students, we will base math placement on transcripts, grades, and standardized test scores. We may request a letter of recommendation from your student's 5th grade teacher to know what skills and concepts they mastered.

Music Instrument Screening

  • Mr. Eilert, our Band and Orchestra teacher, will help students decide what instrument to play when school starts in August. If you have any questions about Band or Orchestra, please contact deilert[at]lps.k12.co[dot]us.

Pride Day

  • TBD (sometime during the week of August 9th). This is our new student orientation program that pairs 8th Grade Pride Leaders with new students. There are many fun games and activities that take place on the football field designed to orient and begin the process of meeting new students. We encourage all new students to attend. Students have the opportunity to see the Powell Staff and begin to familiarize themselves with the building and the location of their classes.

Schedule Pick Up Day

  • August 10th, 9:00 am - Noon and 1:00 - 3:00 pm - Pick up your schedule, take your school picture, and take home your planner.

Digital Citizenship

  • I encourage you to read this information on teaching responsible technology usage as your child transitions to middle school.

If you have other questions about the 6th-grade transition, please contact counselor Lynn Christensen at lmchristensen @lps.k12.co.us or 303-347-7963.
