Student Spotlight - October 24, 2024

The Student Spotlight segment of each Board meeting celebrates a student or a group of students who are living out the Portrait of an LPS Graduate, which highlights the life skills each LPS graduate should have. Tomorrow’s workers will succeed by constantly adapting to the changing world around them, and today’s students must begin by learning and developing life skills - where every student should be well-adjusted, thriving, and balanced.

Additionally, students will develop skills in:

  • Communication
  • Global/Cultural Awareness
  • Character & Critical Thinking
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability
  • Creativity and Risk Taking
  • Resiliency and Collaboration
  • Self Advocacy
  • All surrounding Rigorous and Relevant Academic Skills

LPS strives to implement opportunities to grow these skills at every level of education and recognize students of all ages. At their regularly scheduled meeting on October 24, 2024, the Board recognized students from Wilder Elementary School and Arapahoe High School during the Student Spotlight.

Wilder Elementary School

Reid’s positive attitude, determination, and exemplary CHARACTER all contribute immensely to the learning environment at Wilder. He consistently goes above and beyond, not only in his own ACADEMIC PURSUITS but also in his kindness towards others. He shows unwavering respect to all his peers and the staff at Wilder, making him a role model for his fellow students. Reid’s compassionate nature and willingness to lend a hand in COLLABORATION are truly admirable. His infectious enthusiasm and strong moral compass inspire those around him. Reid is a shining example of the values that Wilder Elementary and Littleton Public Schools strive to instill in students. It is a true privilege to have Reid as a Wilder Wildcat!

Ellie Hastings is a fifth grader at Wilder, and she came to the school as a second grader. Ellie quickly established positive relationships with her peers and the school staff. She accepts everyone for who they are and strives to ensure that everyone feels a strong sense of belonging at Wilder. Ellie’s CHARACTER and positive attitude have significantly contributed to the positive environment at Wilder. She consistently COLLABORATES with her peers, offers help to anyone in need, and is always friendly, welcoming, and approachable. Ellie’s commitment to doing the right thing regardless of the situation reflects her true character. In her academic pursuits, she has demonstrated RESILIENCE and a strong work ethic. She PROBLEM SOLVES, COMMUNICATES effectively, and collaborates with others to support her own learning. Ellie enriches the lives of everyone around her, and Wilder is grateful to have Ellie as a student!

Arapahoe High School

A group of high school students proudly hold their "Student Spotlight" certificates while standing with members of the Board of Education at a recent board meeting, all smiling for the camera. Four board members stand behind the honored students. The photo is framed with a stylish blue and orange swoosh design that includes the words "Student Spotlight," adding a celebratory feel to the recognition moment.Mac Shaver, a senior at Arapahoe High School, has volunteered more hours at Arapahoe than maybe any other student ever has. Whether serving as the student voice at games and activities, or working the video or scoreboard, Mac has dedicated hundreds of hours to help the school. Mac has changed the way Arapahoe televises and calls games, giving access to those who cannot attend in person, which speaks greatly to his GLOBAL AND CULTURAL AWARENESS and PROBLEM SOLVING. Mac created the ASN, which stands for Arapahoe Sports Network, and he is currently utilizing his exemplary COMMUNICATION skills by announcing games for all LPS schools at both of our stadiums. Mac was awarded a Varsity Letter by principal Natalie Pramenko with a gift certificate to purchase his letterman’s jacket from Brad Leitner and the Operations department last spring, and the standing ovation he received from his peers is a memory that will last a lifetime.

Jack Jobanputra has been a wonderful addition to the Arapahoe community! Jack has exemplary RESILIENCY and never lets challenges get in the way of achieving at high levels. Jack is truly an inspiration to everyone at Arapahoe. The school community has come to know him as a warm, kind, and funny student. He has a strong sense of CHARACTER and SELF-ADVOCACY, and Principal Natalie Pramenko said, "We are all better because Jack chose to come to our school!"

Kyle Kato exemplifies what it means to be a Warrior. He takes care of others and succeeds when life throws challenges his way, speaking to his RESILIENCE. He values the team and community around him and recognizes their role in helping him be successful–so successful that he broke the senior record by running a 5K in 15:33! Kyle is an integral part of our team because he understands the value of team COLLABORATION in helping everyone cross the finish line.

Emma Poole has been a committed leader at Arapahoe for four years. She’s been steadfast in leading by example with her CHARACTER and servant's heart. She has been an elected member of our Executive Student Council, making changes in the name of school spirit and kindness. She has met every challenge with a positive mindset and smile. Emma has displayed RISK-TAKING as she has dabbled in many other activities and music at AHS, and her strong GPA, level of rigorous classwork and ACADEMIC SKILLS, and work ethic speak for themselves, but what makes her a Warrior is her love and support for her peers and community.

Lilly LaCome is a senior at Arapahoe this year, and during her junior year, she discovered a true passion: she was accepted into the cosmetology program through CTE programming, and it was like launching a rocket. Lilly is absolutely thriving, and the CHARACTER, maturity, and dedication she has displayed over the past two years are inspiring. Discovering this path to her future has also motivated Lilly’s dedication to her ACADEMIC SKILLS. Lilly is flexing her SELF-ADVOCACY muscles; Principal Natalie Pramenko said, “Lilly is proud of the person she is becoming, and so are we!”

Yoel Kaleb is a senior whose dedication to his education is a personal priority. His ACADEMIC SKILLS reflect this, as he sustains a high level of rigor across all traditional academic areas. This year, he has enrolled in the Computer Science Pathway at EPIC Campus, which has required him to grow in his SELF-ADVOCACY and his independence in school and in the community. His visual impairments do not stop him. Yoel has a kind heart, great CHARACTER, and is respectful to all those whom he encounters, and we are proud of his accomplishments!
