Board approves increase to graduation requirements

During the regularly scheduled March 13, 2025 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved changes to Policy IKF: Graduation Requirements, which increased the number of credits required for graduation from 22 to 24. The policy change affects the Class of 2029 and younger; students currently in Grades 9–12 still need 22 credits to graduate.

The new requirements better prepare all students for college as a post-secondary opportunity, empower students to take ownership of their learning, and provide equity among all high schools and programs. Board members said they continue to hear from students that students felt heard during this process. Board members thanked all of the teachers, principals, counselors, and administrators who were members of the Graduation Requirement Workgroup for their study over the past year and a half. The Board was grateful for their expertise and counsel regarding this change to graduation requirements.
