Littleton Public Schools will be well represented at the 2017 State Spelling Bee on March 11th at the University of Denver. Representatives from Euclid Middle School, Goddard Middle School, Newton Middle School, Powell Middle School and Highland Elementary School will go head-to-head with the state’s top young spellers in the annual competition.
After many spirited rounds, the district competition came down to the winning words ‘quotidian’ and ‘misanthropic.’ Advancing to the State Spelling Bee, the district winner and runners-up will face even more challenging words at the March 11 competition.
Amber K., an 8th grader from Powell Middle School, was this year’s district winner. Amber is no stranger to the pressure of competitive spelling; this is her third year in a row representing LPS as the District Winner. District Runners-Up joining Amber include: Henry M. (Euclid), Isabella C. (Euclid), Michaela S. (Euclid), Josh C. (Goddard) and Makena S. (Highland). Makena is LPS’ first-ever 4th grader to represent the district at the State Spelling Bee.
LPS congratulates all participants of the 2017 District Spelling Bee and wishes the best of luck to the group of students heading to the State Spelling Bee! The District Spelling Bee was made possible thanks to the Gifted and Talented Facilitators/Spelling Bee coaches, judges Darcy Johnson, Patti Turner and Alison Pukurpol, as well as the staff at Powell Middle School and Littleton High School Principal Dr. Amy Oaks who served as the pronouncer.
