Mission: The English Language Development program in Littleton is committed to collaborating with staff, families, and our community to ensure multilingual learners from diverse backgrounds are able to engage and succeed in culturally responsive educational experiences that elevate learning for ALL students.

Welcome! Bonjour! Konichiwa! Al salaam a’alaykum! Ni hao! Hello! ¡Hola! Chào! Bon giorno! Guten Tag! Jambo! Zdravstvuite! Shalom! Dobar Dan!

Littleton Public Schools (LPS) serves approximately 800 English Learners, Grades K - 12. English Learners represent about 5% of the LPS student population speaking more than 47 different languages.  The top five languages spoken at home by our students are Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.  We serve students with a broad range of English acquisition.

English Language Development (ELD) services are provided at all elementary schools throughout the district. The three secondary ELD programs are based at Goddard Middle School, Euclid Middle School and Littleton High School.  Our staff throughout the district is composed of excellent, well-trained personnel that meet the linguistic needs of our multilingual learners.

The academic English language instruction at each of these schools is intensive, with a strong emphasis on supporting immersion of English Learners into the general education classroom.  ELD teachers collaborate with other educators to provide integrated content and academic language lessons that focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.  A range of ELD program services are available that include: co-teaching, specially designed academic instruction, sheltered English and content instruction in the classroom, ELD classes, newcomer support, and monitoring.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) Family Liaisons are available to answer questions, build partnerships, and provide educational opportunities for parents and guardians.

The Littleton Public Schools ELD Program has been honored to receive the English Language Proficiency Act Excellence Award. This award recognizes evidence-based ELD programs that achieve the highest English language and academic growth among English Learners and the highest academic achievement for English Learners who transition out of the ELD program across the state of Colorado.
