Thank you for a wonderful school year!

Dear Littleton Public Schools Parents and Guardians,

As the 2017-2018 school year draws to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to express how incredibly proud I am of our students. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching our students of all ages as they performed at concerts and competed in academic and athletic competitions. It was an emotional evening when the LPS Special Services Advisory Committee honored this year’s 90 student and employee CURO award nominees and recipients for making a difference in the lives of LPS students with disabilities. We also had the privilege of celebrating the careers of 61 LPS employees who are retiring this year after giving a combined 1,222 years of dedicated service to LPS. Every year, the Board of Education and I look forward to celebrating with our seniors at their graduation ceremonies. We are so proud of the Class of 2018.

These celebrations represent years of caring commitment and dedication for students, families, employees and the LPS community.

LPS students deserve our very best, and we are continuously striving to provide the education our students need now in order to be prepared for life after high school.

An impactful decision made last December for the 2018-2019 school year is the change of our school start times to better align with what experts tell us about adolescent sleep patterns. In April, the Board of Education received an update related to the implications of changing school start times. Fees for School Age Child Care have been established. Most elementary enrichment activities will take place after school Monday through Thursday. Current athletic practices, club and activity meeting times at high schools and middle schools will be evaluated, and schools will make every effort to schedule as many after school as possible in order to accommodate our teenagers’ need to sleep longer in the morning.

More information, including the new school start times for the 2018-2019 school year, can be found on the district website, www.littletonpublicschools.net/school-start-times. Individual schools will share additional details this summer as they become available.

Thank you for your strong support of our students. We simply couldn’t do it without you. Littleton Public Schools continues to be the very best place in which to learn and teach. I am so fortunate to be part of this amazing community. It’s been a fantastic year; we are already looking forward to seeing all of you again in the fall.

Have a wonderful summer!
