Delay/Closure Procedures || Procedimiento de Retraso/CierreOn Friday, October 27, Board members met with students at Arapahoe High School for a Student Voices Workshop.
The Board started meeting with a group of students at each LPS high school during the 2022–2023 school year. Giving students a “seat at the table” with the Board has been formally identified as a priority. At their regularly scheduled meeting on April 14, 2022, the Board of Education discussed the value and process of a student advisory committee. Then-superintendent Brian Ewert said, “Kids wanted more interaction and a better way to provide feedback to the Board of Education on issues that are germane to them and their education.”
On August 25, 2022, the Board of Education was presented with a proposal for Student Voice Workshops. At that time, it was determined that the Board would meet with a diverse group of students from each of LPS’s traditional high schools as well as a group of students representative of LPS’s additional programs.
At Friday’s meeting with students from Arapahoe, the agenda included topics such as learning and teaching, culture and climate, school safety, mental health, and post-secondary readiness. Each Board member sat at a table with a small group of students to hear their thoughts and discuss these topics.
Board members and students find these sessions to be valuable, and the Board appreciates student feedback and input, using student voices to inform decisions that shape the work and culture of the district.
