Powell Yearbook and Yearbook Staff Receive Several Awards

The Prowl, Powell Middle School’s yearbook, along with the student publishing staff, has won several awards for its 2020 edition.

The National Scholastic Press Association Recognition
The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) awarded it the First Place Best of Show for Junior High/Middle School at the Association’s virtual fall conference. In addition, students won individual awards in the following categories:

  • Design of the Year Fourth Place (Junior High/Middle School)
    It’s Spirit Time!
    Audrey Dines, David Moritz, and Logan Wilson

  • Story of the Year Honorable Mention (Junior High/Middle School)
    There’s Snow Place Like Home
    Karter Dominguez, Alexandra Trauernicht

  • Photo of the Year Fourth Place (Junior High/Middle School)
    Volleyball
    Hannah Karcz

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association Recognition
The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) has awarded a Crown Award to Powell Middle School’s yearbook staff for their work during the 2019–2020 academic year on The Prowl. 

Crown Awards are the highest recognition given by the CSPA to a student print or digital medium for overall excellence. A total of 849 scholastic publications were eligible for judging in the 2021 Crown Awards Program. Judges for the program are “experienced former advisers to student media, professional journalists who understand student media or professionals such as photographers or online specialists with particular expertise needed for the judging exercise...They consider all aspects of value to the reader: content, design or presentation, coverage, photography as well as writing and editing.” (https://cspa.columbia.edu/awards-student-work/crown-awards).
