Board Approves Revised 2020–2021 School Year Calendars

At its regularly scheduled meeting on August 13, 2020, the LPS Board of Education approved a revised district calendar for the coming school year. The new calendar reflects the new start date of August 24, 2020 and denotes October 19, 2020 as a non-student day and unpaid furlough day for all LPS employees due to budget cuts. The Board also approved a school year calendar for the Temporary Online Program for Students (TOPS), which reflects the TOPS start date of August 31, 2020.

The October 19 non-student/furlough day is part of the Board’s strategy – approved in December 2019 – that cuts $4.2 million out of the general fund for the 2020–2021 school year due to the state’s chronic inability to fund its public schools. Also as part of the strategy, 17 central office positions were cut and all employees’ pay was reduced by one day for 2020–2021. Learn more about the LPS budget
