Yellow Ribbon Week

Yellow Ribbon Student Survey

Powell Middle School will be recognizing the week of December 5, 2016 as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week.  We will have announcements each morning as well as a table set up at lunch with information on stress management and caring for oneself and others.  We will also be conducting activities on Monday and Tuesday during CORE+ and throughout the week during lunches.   The activities will focus around the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program.  For more information about the Yellow Ribbon Program visit their website at www.yellowribbon.org.

*Research shows that talking about suicide does not cause an increased risk.  In fact, most suicidal crises last a short period of time, and people often call for help immediately following a suicide attempt.  (Neither suicidality nor distress increased among students asked about suicidal ideation or behavior.  M. Gould, Ph.D., JAMA 2005, “Talking to close friends and relatives plays a key role in getting the person to seek help.”  British Journal of General Practice 2005)
