Welcome Pumas!

On behalf of the PTO, we are so excited to welcome you to Powell!  The PTO has a few members/volunteers with kids wrapping up their time at Powell this year, so we are looking for some new members and volunteers to help so that we are able to provide many wonderful events and activities to the Powell community, students and staff.  We would like to welcome anyone and everyone to see what a middle school PTO is all about. (side note - it is a lot less work than elementary school and many positions have been so well-planned out over the years to make it very easy for anyone willing to help!)

PTO helps coordinate throughout the entire year with:

  • Attendance volunteers

  • Copy center

  • Library/media center

  • Fundraising (dining for dollars)

  • JPTO scholarship (meet at various times throughout the year)

  • Bulletin Board

Specific events supported by the PTO:

  • Conference Dinners

  • Staff Appreciation Days (classified employee days, staff appreciation, administrative assistant day)

  • Puma Prowl (assist PE teachers with volunteers and award donations)

  • The Stride

  • Veteran’s Day

  • Cookie Exchange

  • 8th grade continuation

  • Chrome book returns

Open board positions are the most important to fill.  We meet once a month (virtually or in person) with Steve Wolf and we ensure everything is on track and ready to go.  We also vote to determine how dollars raised are spent.  Attendance is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged.

PTO Board:

President: Sarah Franklin

Vice President: Staci Usagani

Treasurer: Courtney Jurbala

Secretary: OPEN

VIPs: OPEN

Communications: Beverly Simon

Fundraising: OPEN (definitely a possibility for 2 people to do together)

  • Secretary: Responsible for recording the PTO meeting minutes.

  • VIPs (volunteers in public schools):  This person helps to coordinate and ensure we have volunteers covered for events and activities throughout the year.

  • Fundraising:  Previous people in this role have done an amazing job at making this a seamless role to step into.  Responsible for coordinating with local restaurants for “dining for dollar” nights (roughly 1/month) and sending out information and marketing throughout the month of October for our direct donation drive.

  • JPTO Scholarship: Representative helps interview and award scholarships to teachers in the entire LPS community.
