Board approves 2026-2027 school year calendar

At its regularly scheduled May 8, 2025 meeting, the LPS Board of Education approved the school year calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. This calendar continues to reflect the Board’s values around school year calendars, which have been shaped by the community over time. The calendar was brought by the district’s Calendar Committee to the Board for consideration at the April 24, 2025 Board of Education meeting. The Calendar Committee includes LPS parents and employees from across the district.

Key factors in calendar development included:

  • The Board’s value to end the first semester by winter break and end the school year before Memorial Day;
  • Feedback from a survey given to LPS families and staff;
  • Non-student contact days as outlined in the Littleton Education Association’s Collective Bargaining Agreement; and
  • A value of a calendar that supports the mental health of students and staff.

The survey asked participants a number of questions about the school calendar. The survey indicated that overall families and staff members believe:

  • There are benefits to starting school in August and ending before Memorial Day;
  • Spring Break should stay in the last week of March;
  • There is not a desire for fall break.

The Calendar Committee met four times during the 2024-2025 school year. The Committee considered the requirements for instructional minutes as well as the schedule for state testing, both of which are established by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). The Committee also considered the schedule for Advanced Placement (AP) exams and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in May, which are determined nationally.

School year calendars and the Board of Education’s Calendar Values are available on the district website.
