Littleton Public Schools is thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a select group of LPS high school students who have achieved recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their extraordinary demonstration of work ethic, determination, and academic achievement. This prestigious accolade is not only a testament to dedication throughout their high school career, but also their exceptional potential to fulfil academic success in the future.
National Merit Scholars are among the brightest and most academically gifted high school students in the United States. To qualify, students must take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) during their junior year of high school and obtain a score in the top 1 percent of students in their state. Based on an outstanding PSAT score, academic record, and transcript, they are automatically considered to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program. If determined a semifinalist, students must embark on a rigorous application process, including listing accomplishments in academics, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles; writing an essay detailing academic aspirations for the future; and submitting letters of recommendation from teachers and other school officials highlighting the student’s academic abilities.
Upon distinction from the National Merit Scholar Corporation, finalists have abundant opportunities to earn scholarships, admission into reputable colleges and universities, and a highly-regarded reputation of demonstrating excellent academic abilities and the potential for continued post-secondary success. LPS is honored to recognize these students for their achievements in academics and we can’t wait to see the wonderful contributions they will make in the future.
