LPS High School Students Shine in 14th Annual Poetry Slam

On a crisp November evening, the Options High School gymnasium transformed into a haven for creativity and self-expression during the 14th Annual LPS Poetry Slam. Over 100 attendees gathered in the dimly lit space to hear students bravely share their words, stories, and hearts through poetry.

A person stands on a stage in front of a microphone, performing at what appears to be a poetry slam. They are dressed in casual clothing, including a scarf, beanie, and leather jacket, and are holding a phone while gesturing expressively. Behind them, a brown curtain serves as the backdrop, and a seated audience member and two armchairs are partially visible. The setting conveys a creative and engaging atmosphere. This cherished annual tradition is more than a competition–it’s an opportunity for students to develop their creative writing, performance, and self-expression skills in a supportive environment. The Poetry Slam is generously funded by the LPS Foundation and hosted by renowned poet Jovan Mays, a national slam poet champion.

Leading up to the event, students participated in an exclusive workshop with Jovan, learning the nuances of slam poetry and discovering the transformative power of words. More than 20 high school students took the stage, captivating the crowd with their performances.

The event appears organized and inviting, suggesting a school or community gathering.Adding to the evening’s success, the Options High School culinary class provided a delightful snack bar, showcasing their own creative talents.
