A message from Superintendent Todd Lambert

Dear Littleton Public Schools Families and Employees:

Over the past few days, schools across the country, in Colorado, in neighboring districts, and here in LPS have received baseless threats suggesting harm to schools. These threats are meant to start rumors, instill fear, and disrupt the important work of learning and teaching.

Littleton Public Schools and local law enforcement take every threat to safety seriously and investigate each one. Our students and employees practice the various safety protocols regularly, which means they all know what to do in a variety of situations. We ask that our parents and community members continue to be our partners by remaining vigilant about what is happening around our schools. If you see something, say something. Together, we keep our schools safe places in which to learn and work.

We know these situations can be stressful for everyone. We encourage parents to take time to remind their children to be aware of the current sensitive climate and to be thoughtful about their conversations with others. Even joking or making flippant comments about school violence of any kind may be misunderstood and can result in school discipline and legal charges.

In every situation, we want to make sure we are communicating with you as quickly and appropriately as possible. If a school (or several schools) is placed under a safety protocol, we will send a text message to the parents and employees of those affected schools. This text message will link directly to a page of the district website where time-stamped updates will be posted. Updates will be provided through the district website, additional text messages, and email as appropriate.

If a high school is placed under a safety protocol, students of that high school will also receive text messages to inform students (who may be off campus, outside, or not in the classroom) of the safety protocol at their school.  Because students will not have access to their cell phones during class time, teachers and other school staff will communicate safety information with students as appropriate during the school day.

We encourage parents to check their Infinite Campus Parent Portal to make sure their communication preferences are set to receive emails and text messages from their school and from the district. You could also check your phone to make sure you have not blocked the phone numbers from which your school and the district text you. This will help ensure that you receive these important safety messages as well as weather-related messages as we enter into the fall and winter snow season.

Thank you for being our partners in all areas of school safety. Nothing is more important.

Sincerely,

Todd Lambert
Superintendent
