LPS to Host Classified Job Fair
LPS Human Resources is hosting a Classified Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, October 9th in the ESC Boardroom. LPS is currently hiring full and part-time positions.
LPS Awarded Extended Service Grant
As the District has continued to support the recovery efforts for Arapahoe High School following the tragedy in December 2013, administration has pursued grants to provide funding for additional staffing to address the social emotional needs of the students that have surfaced. We have been informed that we will be awarded the Extended Service Grant through the US Department of Education Office of Safe and Healthy Students. This is a competitive grant awarded to districts that have demonstrated an ongoing need to support recovery efforts following a traumatic event. The funding from this grant will be applied to the costs of the additional mental health professionals allocated to Arapahoe High School.
LPSF ‘Grants to Teachers’ Program Accepting Requests
The Littleton Public School Foundation’s Grants to Teachers program is currently accepting grant requests. The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 30th. Any LPS employee can apply for a grant as long as the request is related to student instruction or professional development. The LPS Foundation Board of Directors has allocated $30,000 in funding to be awarded in two cycles; $15,000 for fall applications to be used in spring of 2016, and $15,000 for spring applications to be used in fall of 2016.
HHS Student Achieved Perfect ACT Score
HHS senior Will Greenway earned a rare perfect score of 36 on the ACT. The ACT, a national college admissions and placement exam, tests students in areas of English, mathematics, reading, science and in some cases writing. About 1.84 million students across the country take the ACT exam and less than 1,500 achieve a score of 36.
AHS Grad Named A Winner in National Geographic Photo Contest
Arapahoe High School graduate Beth McCarley was a Merit Winner in National Geographic’s 2015 Traveler Photo Contest. Judges reviewed 18,000 photographs and McCarley’s, A Night at Deadvlei, was one of ten to receive a top prize.
LHS Coach Finished Leadville 100 with High School Team by his Side
Congratulations to LHS assistant cross country coach Bill Stahl who finished the Leadville 100. With a time of 29 hours 57minutes 54 seconds, he was the last finisher to make the official 30-hour cut-off. As one last boost of energy, members of the LHS cross country team ran the final yards of the race with him!
Students Attended National TSA Conference
In June, 54 LPS students from Euclid, Goddard, Heritage and Littleton attended the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference in Dallas. This year approximately 6,700 students participated, hauling from across the country, Turkey and Germany. At the conference, LPS was represented in the top 10 several times!
Students Attended National FBLA Conference
In June, six AHS students and six LHS students attended the national Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) conference in Chicago. Though none of the students made it to the final round, all of the students did very well against extremely tough competition.
LHS Marching Band Took 1st at State Fair
Littleton High School’s Lion Pride Marching Band took 1st in their division and 1st overall at the 2015 Colorado State Fair Parade Competition on August 29th. This is the first time that the LHS Marching Band has won the Class 4A Division First Place Trophy and the first time they have won the First Place Overall Sweepstakes Trophy.
LHS Drum Majors Recognized at State Fair
Littleton High School Drum Major, Nick Johnson, won the Outstanding Drum Major award at the 2015 Colorado State Fair Parade Competition. Senior Drum Majors Kate McNealy and Cami Shigaya were also recognized.
AHS Golf Team Won Centennial League Championship
The AHS Warriors gold team won the Centennial League Championship for the first time in 13 years. The JV team also won the JV League Championship.
LPS Director of Security Appointed to National Committee
Guy Grace, LPS director of security and emergency planning, was appointed to the national Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) steering committee. Grace is one of three new members to join the committee as a director. This is an initiative developed by the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA) and the Security Industry Association (SIA).
LPS Financial Services Received International Award for Excellence
The LPS Financial Services Department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
