Each May, the Littleton Public Schools Joint PTO Scholarship Fund awards grants to support continued professional growth for teachers. These grants help teachers pay for special training or classes towards an advanced degree. The funds are a result of a joint enterprise between the Parent/Teacher Organizations (PTOs) of all LPS schools.
This year, 12 teachers from across the district were awarded scholarships. LPS Superintendent Scott Murphy presented recipients with their Joint PTO Scholarship Fund grants during a reception held May 6, 2015. The 2015 recipients are:
Mindy Allen – Highland Elementary
Michelle Crookham – Arapahoe High School
Leigh Ann Gardner – Peabody Elementary School
Kaylie Gonzalez – Wilder Elementary School
Shannon Hanschen – Goddard Middle School
Melissa Hubbard – Hopkins Elementary School
Lisa Kreutz – Wilder Elementary School
Scarlet Lammers – Highland Elementary School
Jay Mayer – Franklin Elementary School
Tracy McCandless – Franklin Elementary School
Robert Thelan – Euclid Middle School
Jason Troth – Franklin Elementary School
The LPS Joint PTO Scholarship Committee’s objective is to improve instruction for students by helping to support motivated, excited and skilled teachers that continue to learn and grow professionally. “The LPS Joint PTO Scholarship Fund was founded in 1958,” said the scholarship committee’s co-chair, Margot LaBree. “Since that time, this committee has dedicated itself to providing financial assistance to district teachers for the purpose of continuing their education. The teachers receiving grants have demonstrated that their plans to enhance their own educations will in turn enhance our children’s educations.”
