LPS parents were invited to a special evening workshop at the Ames Facility on April 11, 2018 to address the challenges of parenting in a world of ever-changing technology. Three sessions covered topics including “Screens, Sleep and Stress,” “Cyber Parenting with Younger Kids (PreK-5th)” and “Cyber Parenting with Adolescents.”
The workshop provided parents with useful information about improving their cyber-parenting skills while supporting the safe and healthy use of technology. Sessions included key research about how screen time can affect sleep, what is an appropriate age for kids to have a cell phone and why it is important to balance social and academic demands for time for students of all ages.
A Technology Resource Center was available for parents to learn how to set parental controls and enable privacy restrictions on computers and phones, while a Student Panel from LPS schools shared their insights about which apps and sites are popular and answered questions from parents.
The event was sponsored by the LPS Foundation.
