When the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) character “Wilder” appeared at a school assembly at Wilder Elementary School on October 8, he was greeted by excited staff and students. “Wilder,” who embodies the imagination, wonder and creativity anyone can experience when being outside at any time of the year, “encourages students to engage their imaginations by playing outside - reminding them it can be every bit as fun and cool as sitting in front of a screen,” according to Rosemary Dempsy, communications director at GOCO.
Looking like a cross between a yeti and a mountain goat, “we wanted to bring to life something remarkable to help us continue to deliver our message around how kids grow better outside,” Dempsey added. The GOCO program is an integrated, statewide effort that involves providing parents and caregivers inspiration for getting children outside.
