FAQs

When does Open Enrollment occur?

There are two Open Enrollment windows:

  • October 1, 2023 - November 15, 2023 (check back at the end of September, as the Board of Education may decide to suspend open enrollment for some or all levels for Window 1 based on boundary work)
  • November 16, 2023 - January 13, 2024

Check the Open Enrollment web page for details, deadlines and access to forms.

The Board of Education is reviewing boundaries for the fall of 2024.

  • Boundary maps for the 2023-2024 school year will be posted here once approved by the Board of Education.
  • Use our 2023-2024 School Boundary/Bus Route Locator Tool (for current school year only)

Will LPS require students to attend the school they are assigned to?

Open enrollment will always be available to families. It's important to remember that transportation will not be provided for students who do not attend their neighborhood school.

My student’s neighborhood school is changing next year because the boundaries changed. Can my student continue to attend their current school?

Most students who live inside LPS district boundaries and want to attend an LPS school other than their neighborhood school can do so. Submit an Open Enrollment request to your current school.

My student’s neighborhood school is changing next year because the boundaries changed. My student will attend our new neighborhood school. Do I need to do anything?

No. Your student will automatically be enrolled in your new neighborhood school. If you are interested in transportation, enter your address into the School Boundary/Bus Route Locator Tool to see if your student is eligible for transportation services and then submit a request for transportation. (coming soon)

What about students who only have one year left at their current school but are assigned to a new school - do they have to change schools for that last year?

Families must submit a Request for Open Enrollment if they want their students to stay at their current school. Priority Open Enrollment will be given to incoming 5th graders, incoming 8th graders and all incoming high school students who will no longer live in their current school’s boundary zone.

I cannot tell from looking at the maps whether or not my students are affected by boundary changes. What should I do?

You can enter your address into our School Boundary/Bus Route Locator Tool – it will tell you which school boundaries you live within and whether or not your students are eligible for transportation.
