Sheriff’s Scholarship
Congratulations to recent Heritage graduate Nicolai Puc’, who was this year’s recipient of the County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC) scholarship for Arapahoe County. The CSOC offered 31 awards to deserving high school and college students in Colorado to fund higher-level education expenses for the 2016-2017 academic school year.

Finance Award
Congratulations to the LPS Finance Department, recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. This award was given for LPS’ Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015.

U.S. News & World Report Rankings
According to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 standings, Arapahoe High School and Heritage High School were ranked among the top 1,500 high schools in the country. AHS was ranked #1197 nationally and HHS was ranked #1247 nationally.

HHS MAD Week 
MAD Week 2016 at Heritage High School was a huge success! This year’s final numbers:

  • Money Donated to Freedom Service Dogs: $10,084.05 (matched by Anschutz, totaled $20,168.10)
  • Total number of finalized care packages (once they were combined to be shipped): 197 postage boxes, totaling  $6,738.50 worth of products. Some packages have already been received in Korea and Afghanistan.
  • Pounds of Clothing to Disabled American Veterans: 1,083.1 lbs.

National French Contest
Congratulations to Ange Morignot, a Platinum winner in the 2016 National French Contest Le Grand Concours. Platinum is the highest award in Le Grand Concours. Morignot recently finished 11th grade at Littleton High School.

Optimist Club Contest
Congratulations to Mark Spangler, named State Champion by the Colorado-Wyoming Optimist International organization, for his “Best Day Ever” message. As the winner, Spangler earned a $2,500 scholarship. Each contestant had to prepare a 4 to 5 minute speech on the official Optimist Oratorical Contest topic for 2016 - How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others. The first competition was held back in March. The winners at their local level went on to compete at the zone and regional levels before finally reaching the district (Colorado-Wyoming) competition. Spangler recently finished 8th grade at Goddard Middle School.

Stock Market Game
Kaitlynn Tucker and teammate, also known as K&W Incorporated, recently finished 2nd place in the Colorado Region in the Stock Market Game. The Stock Market Game gives teams a simulated $100,000 to buy stocks of U.S. companies and uses real market data to determine a team's portfolio value. Tucker recently finished 5th grade at Highland Elementary School.

Colorado Woman in Combat
Heritage High School alumna Kayleigh Schlag took an oath of enlistment and officially became the first Colorado woman recruited by the U.S. Army into a potential combat role. Private Schlag graduated from Heritage in 2013.

KOMU Anchor
Arapahoe High School alumnus Mike Carlson is serving as a broadcast news co-anchor for KOMU in Missouri. The University of Missouri is the only university in the country to own a broadcast news station, giving broadcast journalism students the opportunity to complete their degrees while gaining real-world experience. Carlson graduated from AHS in 2015 and a founding member of the school’s SPEAR Broadcast team.

HBU Athlete invited to NCAA Forum
Houston Baptist University women’s soccer player Morgan Dean was invited to the seventh-annual NCAA Career in Sports Forum. The annual event is an educational forum that brings together 200 selected student-athletes to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on college athletics. Dean graduated from Arapahoe High School in 2013.
