The Board of Education recently received an email from Timothy Hernandez, an activity leader at Little Raven’s school-aged childcare program, about the SACC program’s director, Julie Fortin.
Mr. Hernandez, who has worked in public education since 1988, wrote the following:
“The Little Raven SACC program is a high quality childcare program because of the management of Ms. Fortin. She has assembled a team of dedicated caregivers who each brings a particular specialization to the program…Children enrolled in the Little Raven SACC program are fundamentally safe and they are provided with enriching activities throughout their stay.
“Julie leads by example. She challenges the children to be respectful to one another, to be respectful of the spaces and materials they use daily, and to respect the leaders and aides who mentor them during their visits…Julie and her staff expertly redirect young people to other activities when behavior falls below that which has been expected of them. She generously recognizes and rewards children who distinguish themselves through their conduct and example.
“As an employee manager, Julie is skilled at mentoring the youngest members of her staff, shepherding them into the field of childcare with deliberate guidance. She is mindful of staff training obligations to ensure the Little Raven SACC program complies with all state licensing regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children best practices.”
Mr. Hernandez’s email went on to describe how Ms. Fortin has allowed him to share his passion for storytelling with children at the program and how she has supported him with flexibility, compassion, and understanding as he has entered the chapter of life where he needs to care for his aging mother.
The Board of Educaiton was proud to recognize Julie Fortin at the January 23, 2025 meeting for her leadership and deep commitment to the welfare of all students and staff in the Little Raven SACC program. People like Julie are what make LPS such a special place, and LPS is forever grateful for the excellence they bring to our district. Thank you, Julie, for all you do!
