Ninth grade Language Arts Honors students read and discussed Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, George Orwell's 1984, and Cory Doctorow's Little Brother. Throughout our study, students were asked what warnings these authors are trying to convey to their readers. At the culmination of their study, students were asked to answer three questions in a Wikified Research Paper: as a society, what have we learned, what haven't we learned, and as a result, where are we going? Students use textual evidence to answer the first two questions, but the third question is all modern examples. Tonight, students were asked to formally present their work to an audience of their peers and parents as well as district personnel in attendance.
