Over Spring Break the Arapahoe High School Choral Program embarked on a five day trip to New York City. Eleven chaperones, including Principal Natalie Pramenko, Choir Director Kirk Schjodt, and English Department Chair Maura Moritz traveled alongside a group of 96 students on the memorable trip. The trip served multiple purposes. Warrior singers were able to spend time in workshops led by industry professionals for part of their time. Whether they chose to attend sessions led by the actors, choreographer or either of the two Broadway show choral directors, the opportunity learn from New York professionals will be lessons they will not quickly forget.

Another capstone experience of the trip came with the opportunity to perform at the Empire State Building. Having nearly 100 of our Warriors filling the hallways of this historic landmark with their beautiful voices would have made every member of our community proud.

The trip also had its share of theater experiences. The group saw three different performances over the five days in NYC, the musical Anastasia, the epic Kink Kong, and the famous novel-turned-play To Kill a Mockingbird. Sophomore Mackenzie Moritz had the following to say, “Overall, I really enjoyed our trip to NYC. Everywhere we went and everything we did was unforgettable. It brought us all closer together as friends and as a group. It was the experience of a lifetime and I will always have many unforgettable memories from this trip.”

When they were not learning or performing, they spent time traveling to many well known tourist attractions, including Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, the 9/11 Memorial, and they boarded a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island up close. A portion of the group even made it out to a filming of the Today Show.

A special thank you to the chaperones and parents who made this trip a reality. Our Warriors were able to gain valuable exposure in the areas of their passion over their Spring Break as an extension of what they have absorbed in the Choir Room at Arapahoe!
