February - Monthly Highlights of Positive Behavior Initiatives at Lenski

B3

In January we continued our weekly B3 rewards drawings. Weekly winners received their bracelets and had a group photo taken and displayed on the TV in the entrance. Look forward to our B3 Grade Level Contest in March!

Second Step
A big thank-you to all Lenski families who continue to diligently complete and return the take-home activities which reinforce social-emotional skills and allow your students to tell you what they have learned in school.
    • In Kindergarten we learned that accidents can happen and how to show our classmates that we care. We role-played showing empathy by saying, "I am sorry, it was an accident. Are you OK?"
    • In 1st grade we practiced identifying our own feelings and how  to calm down strong feelings such as anger by using positive self-talk.
    • 2nd graders are talking about how to notice and understand what someone else is feeling (empathy) and how to show care and concern for each other (compassion).
    • In 3rd grade we learned that is difficult to think clearly when you have strong feelings and how we should listen to our bodies for clues about how we feel.
    • 4th graders are practicing how to say their problems without blame and show respect for each others' opinions and preferences.
    • In 5th grade we are learning about the benefits of making a plan to solve complicated problems in our lives.

Random Acts of Kindness (RAK)

First grade students have been practicing random acts of kindness.   This lesson came from a book called "Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler" by Margery Cuyler.  The story is about 6 students who thought is was "cool" to be mean so their teacher made them do random acts of kindness. After a while they all loved being kind so much the entire class started doing random acts of kindness. Their goal was to get 100 random acts of kindness and encourage the one student who wouldn't do any to start being kind. Mrs.Ruler's class achieved their goal!   First grade students were challenged to complete 5 random acts of kindness at home.
