With full-day, kindergarten students simply have more time to learn higher academic and social skills in a developmentally appropriate manner. They are able to master skills and concepts they need in a caring and supportive environment. (All of Hopkins' kindergarten classrooms are full-day. Kindergarten Screening is an optional screening that we HIGHLY encourage incoming kindergarten students to participate in. This screening gives us a chance to ease their anxiety, see their ability to separate, and do things independently with an adult they are not familiar with. This is not an entry test. We do a variety of screening activities to look at motor skills, speech and language and understanding of kindergarten concepts. It also helps us get to know the children as we consider classroom placement for next school year. We will give parents general feedback at the end of each child's screening time. The Colorado Lions KidSight Program volunteers will also be here for a free vision screening.
Please call the main office at 303-347-4550 to schedule your appointment. Please plan on staying about an hour for the screening process - parents or the person bringing future kindergarteners to the screening will wait in the lobby.** Students in the Hopkins Pre-K program, who are in attendance that day, will be brought down by a staff member for screening. If your Hopkins Preschooler does not normally attend on that day, please contact the office to schedule an appointment.

The Kindergarten Roundup is your child's first classroom visit. The purpose of this time is to give your child a chance to be in the classroom and see what kindergarten will be like. As they spend some time with our teachers doing some fun activities, parents/guardians will wait in the lobby.**
**It is important that someone remain on site for each child attending the screening and roundup for emergency purposes.
