Our Program

Our Program

At The Village at North, our mission is to provide the children and families of this community with a safe, nurturing learning environment that maximizes individual student and family potential.

We believe that children learn best through active participation and positive interactions with peers and staff. We work to provide acceptance and trust and to reflect the diversity of our community in each classroom. We believe that families provide the foundation for each child’s education. We actively support and encourage a family partnership between home and school. We strive to expose children to a variety of learning experiences and family events that foster a love of learning.

The Village staff consists of qualified, highly-trained, caring individuals who enjoy children and are dedicated early childhood professionals. Each class is taught by a qualified lead teacher and a paraprofessional who collaborate with special education professionals to provide a variety of engaging and developmentally appropriate experiences. All of our teachers and paraprofessionals meet school district and state requirements for working with young children. Staff meet regularly to plan, problem solve, and communicate ideas regarding the program. Staff professional development and trainings are on-going. Confidentiality is practiced and respected.

We utilize evidence-based curricula that align with Littleton Public Schools and Colorado State Early Learning and Development Guidelines. For more information on our curricula, please read and explore the links found on the Curriculum page.

Our program is designed to serve children ages 3-5 years old, turning 3 by October 1st.  We have a program quality rating of 4 out of 5 through the Colorado Shines Quality Early Learning Program. Families may participate in our program on a tuition basis, or depending upon individual family eligibility we may utilize funding from federal and state Early Childhood sources including Head Start, Colorado Preschool Program, and Early Childhood Special Education.

Our classrooms are arranged with distinct, well-equipped interest and learning centers. Each classroom has a dramatic play area, block area, library and quiet area, art and sensory area, a discovery (math and science) area and circle area for group activities. Classroom materials include large muscle equipment, manipulative toys, and musical instruments and props. Children engage in a consistent daily schedule that is balanced between child-choice and teacher-directed learning activities. The activities are balanced with active and quiet discovery times and indoor/outdoor play times. Children participate in regular physical education enrichment.

Each of our classrooms maintain an 8 to 1, student to teacher ratio, with a maximum of 16 students per class.  We offer full day and part day classroom options.  Our program is licensed by the State of Colorado.  We are a Littleton Public Schools district preschool and follow the LPS school year calendar for holidays and breaks.

The Child Find office is located at The Village at North.  Child Find staff are key in connecting families and planning transitions for students with identified developmental concerns to enter preschool classroom at both Village sites.

Contact The Village office if you have any questions.  We look forward to working with you and your child in the future.

Curriculum

Creative Curriculum is a research-based curriculum that was selected by Littleton Public Schools and supported by the Board of Education for use in all of the preschools in our district.

On the basis of scientific research and state and professional standards, The Creative Curriculum identifies the knowledge, skills, and concepts important for preschool children to acquire in each content area: literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.

The key components in these areas are:

  • Literacy: vocabulary and language, phonological awareness, letters, words, print, comprehension, books and other texts, and sources of enjoyment
  • Mathematics: numbers; patterns and relationships; geometry and spatial awareness; measurement; and data collection, organization, and representation
  • Science: physical science, life science, and earth and the environment
  • Social Studies: spaces and geography, people and how they live, people and the environment, and people and the past
  • The Arts: dance, music, drama, and the visual arts
  • Technology: awareness of technology, basic operations and concepts, technological tools, and people and technology

The Creative Curriculum for Preschool is based on 38 learning objectives in the above content areas as well as in the Physical, Social-Emotional, and Language areas of development.  Our staff measures each child’s progress on these 38 learning objectives three times in the school year.  For this reason, we use the Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment System.  We also individualize for each child’s learning needs to ensure that progress is being made on each of these 38 learning objectives throughout the year.

We implement The Incredible Years Dinosaur School Social-Emotional curriculum.  This is a research-based curriculum that the staff and children LOVE!  It provides the teachers with a variety of materials and resources – books, puppets, videos, visuals, and role play – to guide our children in developing the necessary skills for positive social interactions, conflict resolution, and identification and management of feelings.
