Newton Open Enrollment Procedures

Newton is pleased to accept applications from students for Open enrollment.  NONRESIDENT STUDENT means your student lives outside of the LPS attendance area (but may currently attend an LPS school). IN-DISTRICT OPEN ENROLLMENT means your student lives within the LPS attendance area, but would like to enroll at an LPS school of choice, not the home school. Continuing your NONRESIDENT STUDENT open enrollment: Families who have a student currently enrolled at Newton and would like to renew enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year are required to submit an Intent to Renew Enrollment form by the January 8th, 2021 deadline.

In an effort to better serve families LPS now offers two open enrollment windows. All qualified students who apply within an open enrollment window will be part of a random drawing for acceptance, following district enrollment guidelines.  This means families will have several weeks to turn in open enrollment applications for a random drawing of qualified students. Families will no longer feel pressured to line up on October 1st to turn in applications for open enrollment.  Open enrollment applications must be turned in to each requested school with any additional supporting documents the school requires. Families are encouraged to apply during window one.  Enrollment for the 2021-2022 School year is as follows:

  • Enrollment Window One begins October 1, 2020 and ends November 13, 2020. Students will be notified by the end of the first full week in December (December 11, 2020). Students who apply, and are not chosen in Open Enrollment Window One, will be placed on a waitlist.  Should space become available, a random drawing, based on LPS Open Enrollment Guidelines will occur.  Additionally, students who applied in Open Enrollment Window One, will be placed in the random drawing before students who applied during Open Enrollment Window Two.
  • Enrollment Window Two begins November 16, 2020 and ends the first Friday following winter break (January 8, 2021). Students will be notified by the second Friday of the second semester (January 15, 2021).

The following supporting documents must be submitted to NEWTON along with any applications for Open Enrollment (these documents are not required for Intent to Renew):

  • Copy of your most recent report card or transcript
  • Copy of your most recent attendance report
  • Copy of IEP (if applicable)
  • Copy of discipline record (The report is available from your current school), or a letter from school indicating no discipline actions.
  • Copy of the most current standardized test scores

Applications for enrollment cannot be considered until all supporting documents have been received.
