ROBOTICS, LENSKI GOLF TOURNAMENT AND MORE TECHNOLOGY!

Did your kids mention anything about working with Robotics at school?
During the week of January 29, all grades 1-5 participated in Robotics week. Our fearless Technology teachers Dana Wilhelm and Katelyn Cerasuolo partnered up with Engineering for Kids to expose Lenski students to robotics and the programming of robotics. The students, teachers and guest teachers all had a great experience. Here's what your student learned during Robotics week!
 
Grades 4-5: Students used the EV3 Robotics Rover and Lego Programming Software to engineer their robot and program how it should move. Students learned to program the robot to use it sensors to "walk" on a white line.

Grades 1-3: Students used WEDO 1.0 and Lego Programming Software to build simple robotics functions and "tell" it how to function using the programming software. Most grades built a windmill and used the software to tell it how to operate and stop when it sensed someone's hand was in the way.

  

 

What's Next?
 
Students are continuing this Robotics excitement with our own technology teachers. You may have heard your student talk about Ozobots that they have used in computer lab time. They have learned to program these to respond to the colors they see on a floor map. The lab has recently added these permanent teaching tools of ozobots, bee bots and makey makey stem innovation kits for regular use in the STEM/Computer lab time.
   
How Was This Funded?
 
Both the Engineering for Kids Robotics Week and new purchases to our STEM/Computer lab were funded through the PTO Technology Committee. Where do we get our funds? I'm glad you asked!
  • The Lenski Golf Tournament for Technology coming upFriday May 11th - 1pm start at South Suburban Golf Course. Save the date now and look for registration details soon! All proceeds support technology at Lenski including this robotics initiative.
Can I Get Involved?
  • Yes! We need more members on our PTO Technology Advisory Committee. Many of our most active parents are graduating out soon and we want to keep our tradition of being a technology leader in the district. The committee meets approximately 4-5 times a year to discuss technology initiatives in our school and the district overall. We work closely with our technology teachers and Dr. DeSpain to understand technology needs and opportunities for PTO support. 
  • Our next meeting is Thursday March 1st,  7:30AM @ Lenski Library
