There is a lot of excitement about the total solar eclipse that will occur Monday, August 21, 2017.  We ask parents to help us stress to your children the importance of not looking directly at the eclipse.  Children should be reminded that looking at the eclipse still means looking directly at the sun, which can damage their retinas.  According to NASA, it is never safe to look at a partial eclipse or the partial phases of a total solar eclipse without proper equipment and techniques.  Looking directly at the sun is never safe!

We will be having indoor recess at Sandburg on Monday to help avoid students being so curious they forget to not look directly at the sun without proper protection.

NASA provides important information regarding eye safety during a solar eclipse.

Thank you for your partnership to keep your children safe! We will send more information home in the coming days regarding the eclipse.
