After carefully monitoring weather conditions and consulting with weather services, law enforcement agencies, the Colorado Department of Transportation and other school districts, the decision was made to have a two-hour delayed start for all LPS schools on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. 2 HORAS DE RETRASO EN EL COMIENZO - TODAS LAS ESCUELAS DE LPS. Después de supervisar cuidadosamente las condiciones meteorológicas y de consultar con las fuerzas de seguridad y de orden público, el Departamento de Transporte de Colorado y otros distintos escolares, se tomó la decisión de retrasar dos horas el comienzo de todas las escuelas de LPS el martes 7 de enero de 2025.

How Sick is Too Sick?

 
 
 
 
Parents, please help us keep our students and teachers healthy this school year!

There are a few simple steps we can take to prevent the spread of illness.  Please be sure your child knows to: 

  • Clean hands frequently.  Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use hand sanitizer if hand washing facilities are unavailable.  Gels, rubs, and hand wipes all work well as long as they contain at least 60% alcohol.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow.  Cough or sneeze into your sleeve, not your hands.
  • Have a balanced diet.
  • Get adequate rest.

Develop a plan for when your child needs to be kept home from school. If a child is too sick to be in school we will send the student home. Students who are ill will remain in the health office until picked up by an approved adult. Students should remain at home until they are healthy and sypmtom free without medication.  Public health authorities advise not to send a child to school with a fever and symptoms of illness, Please keep your student at home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone without fever reducing medications.  If you have any concerns about your child’s health, we urge you to contact your primary care provider.

Immunizations

 
Colorado law requires that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment-Certificate of Immunization be completed and provided to your child’s school. The law requires documentation of immunizations or exemption certificate.

Medication at School

The district medication policy does not allow any medication (prescription or non-prescription) to be administered at school unless accompanied by medication forms: Medication Authorization Form, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Care Plan, Asthma Care Plan. These forms require the signature of the parent and the doctor. Medication must be brought in a properly labeled container provided by the pharmacy. The container label must include the date, the name of the student, name of the drug, dosage, purpose of the medication, and directions for administering and storing the medication.
** Students are not to have medication on their person at school **

Points To Remember:

  • A doctor’s authorization is required for all over the counter medications, i.e. cough drops, Tylenol, etc.
  • Parents are responsible for bringing the child’s medication to school along with any utensils necessary to administer the medicine to the student.
  • If the medication needs to be split in half, please ask your pharmacist to split it for you.
  • If your child’s dosage changes, new permission forms must be completed and the container must match the new instructions.
