Students Excel at 2018 LPS Math Olympiad

Fourth and fifth grade teams from across the district recently competed at the 2018 LPS Math Olympiad at Ames. Throughout the school year, these teams of math “experts” met weekly to develop their skills in mathematics and to stimulate their enthusiasm for the subject.

The competition consisted of a 20 problem written test that the three-member teams from each school had to solve. Teams worked collaboratively, submitting one answer per problem. Along with submitting their answers, teams were required to show how they solved each problem. After completing the written test, teams participated in a Buzzer Round. The winners of the 2018 LPS Math Olympiad were:

5th Grade Teams

  • 1st Place — Highland Elementary School
  • 2nd Place — Twain Elementary School
  • 3rd Place — Hopkins Elementary School and Littleton Academy (tie)

4th Grade Teams

  • 1st Place — Wilder Elementary School
  • 2nd Place — Sandburg Elementary School
  • 3rd Place — Lenski Elementary School

Congratulations to all participants and a special thank you to the coaches, parents and staff supported the event.
