Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers “EPIC” Campus will open August, 2023

During its regularly scheduled meeting on February 24, 2022, the LPS Board of Education approved a new name for what was temporarily named the Career Exploration Center located on the southeast corner of Broadway and Littleton Blvd.  Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers “EPIC” Campus will open in August of 2023.

The EPIC Campus will provide an opportunity for students to experience hands-on learning using state-of-the-art technology and innovative processes. Education pathways aligned to industry standards will focus on the following six areas: Aerospace, Business and Entrepreneurship, Computer Sciences, Construction Trades, Health Science, and National Resources. The learning experience at the EPIC Campus will give students the opportunity to earn content credit, industry certifications, concurrent enrollment, and work-based learning.

The naming committee – composed of students from Arapahoe, Heritage, Littleton and Options high schools; parents; LPS employees; and industry partners – met during the fall of 2021. A nomination form was shared with a large number of stakeholders. Forty-four nominations were submitted from LPS 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and their families, Career and Technical Education Teachers, Advisory Committee members, and staff hired to be pathway leads. Ideas were vetted by the naming committee and narrowed down to two finalists. The naming committee presented the two finalist names, Career Exploration Campus (CEC) and Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers (EPIC) to the Board of Education during its February 10, 2022 meeting.

Board members thanked members of the naming committee for bringing two strong names for the Board’s consideration. Board members discussed the merits of each name before voting. EPIC appealed to the Board as a unique name, different from other career exploration centers across the metro area; EPIC was also the preferred name of the students on the naming committee.  Learn more about EPIC.
