Academic Programs / Special Features
We provide a rigorous and comprehensive academic program that addresses the traditional subjects of reading, writing, math, science and social studies with extended learning opportunities in the areas of physical education, music and art.
Free full-day kindergarten
Ralph Moody's Gifted and Talented program is a comprehensive program available to students kindergarten through 5th grade. Students identified and those students "guested in" get the opportunity to extend beyond the classroom to higher level more challenging projects and content. Beyond the classroom, the GT Facilitator provides enrichment clubs such as Battle of the Books, Math Olympiad and a yearly Spelling Bee.
Technology: 1:1 Chromebooks in Grades 3–5, 1:2 Touch Chromebooks in Grades K–2. Our RME Tech Team is researching a variety of programs and apps that can be used in the classroom to further enhance instruction.
STEM: We have several ways STEM is integrated throughout the instructional day. We believe learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is an integral part of a child’s learning. This is integrated throughout the Science, Social Studies and Math curriculums. We utilize modules from Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and another elementary STEM education program to provide access to coding, robotics and a variety of project based learning.
Makerspace: Makerspace is a learning experience that provides students an opportunity to engage in rigorous learning where they are in control of aspects of their learning as well as the design process in determining solutions to real world issues. This hands-on learning requires students to think critically, collaborate with peers, be creative, innovative, take risks and learn just as much from failures as successes. This cross-curricular learning employs STEM learning as well as addresses literacy and social studies/history. It is imperative that elementary schools build curiosity within learning by providing all students, kindergarten through fifth grade, choice, voice and equitable access. Research from the Partnership of 21st Century Learning is clear “[schools need to] emphasize the 4Cs – communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity – skills that all learners need for success in school, work and life” (2019). Makerspace is an effective way to teach and further these skills.
PLCs: Teachers collaborate weekly to plan instruction, analyze grade level data and design instruction for students who would benefit from extension opportunities and/or interventions.
Clubs and Enrichment Opportunities: Coding Club, Lego Engineering, Chess Club, Spanish Club, Cursive Club, Cartooning Club, Sticky Fingers Cooking Club, Terracycle Club, Theatre Club, Violin Club, Colorado Honor Band, Student Council, Battle of the Books, Math Club, etc. (Clubs/Enrichments may change year to year)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS): Each day students receive instruction on social skills, character education and expectations. Students are able to role play different situations they may find themselves in at school and with peers.
Preschool: In this program, we promote the development of children’s self-esteem and social competence through a variety of age appropriate activities in a safe and nurturing environment. Our staff will help prepare children for kindergarten by providing meaningful experiences in order to enhance optimal growth in social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical skills. We hope to provide a seamless learning experience for children who will attend Ralph Moody Elementary.
School Age Child Care (SACC): The Ralph Moody SACC Program is a before and after school program that strives to meet the individual needs of each child and family. We have a safe, warm and inviting environment with experienced staff. Our program builds on the school day with after school activities that meet the emotional, physical and cognitive needs of each child. We also offer a full-day program with fun-filled field trips during the summer.
PTO: Ralph Moody Elementary has an active and engaged Parent Teacher Organization that provides fundraising support via events such as the Color Run, annual Silent Auction, restaurant nights and more. The PTO also coordinates fun school-based activities including Halloween and Valentines parties, Talent Show, parent-child dances, game nights and the school carnival, as well as teacher appreciation and school spirit events.
Mental Health Supports: Social and emotional well-being is an important component to a comprehensive education. We have a full-time counselor, full-time social worker and half-time school psychologist to support students needing more specialized learning.
Learning Support Services: Programs for students with learning and behavior needed supports where we strive to meet their needs through the IEP process.
