The LPS Foundation helped the school district clean, disinfect, and distribute Chromebooks to LPS families in the early days of the Coronavirus outbreak when Govenor Polis shut down the city with his Stay At Home order forcing schools to pivot to a distance learning model.

With LPS launching school through distance learning, many LPS families requested help with internet access so their kids could connect online to participate in school. In these challenging times, families are struggling to cover the cost of something that seems so standard in homes today.

LPSF provided funding to help these LPS families connect virtually by making WIFI hotspots available. We know as closures remain in place, the need will become even greater and LPSF is committed to helping.

After participating in a three-day suicide prevention workshop, a number of LPS students were inspired to form a group committed to promoting social-emotional awareness, mental health, kindness, and suicide prevention within their school communities.

With support and facilitation from the LPS mental health team, these students named their group: Students Promoting Emotional Awareness and Kindness (SPEAK). Some of their activities this year have included:

  • Promoting suicide prevention and awareness in their buildings by sharing information about mental health and events like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk
  • Providing feedback on how to make our schools more equitable for students by sharing their stories with district mental health staff
  • Developing suggestions for staff on how to incorporate simple strategies to help promote mental health amongst students during the global pandemic

The group faced challenges this past year with not being able to gather in person but continues planning activities for the future including hosting a Student Voice Workshop for middle school students, a parent workshop on how to talk to your teen about tough topics, and more. Your donation to the LPS Foundation helps support important programs like SPEAK.

The LPS Foundation provided $50,000 in funding to provide healthy breakfast and lunch meals to kids in our community between March 16th - July 24th.  Over 125,000 meals were providved!  The LPS Nutrition Team made it fun for kids by dressing up in cosutmes and providing that awesome connection to school that kids were craving.  LPS Bus Drivers were happy to drive bus routes and help deliver the meals to eager, appreciative, and happy kids.  The LPS Foundation also providved $10,000 in funding to purchase all levels and all kinds of books to give out to kids along with the meals.  Thank you to our generous supporters for joining in this effort with us!

In early 2019, the LPS Foundation funded a pilot program at East Elementary School to help students understand and regulate their emotional well-being, using heart rate monitors to signal when they were feeling calm, anxious, or stressed.  The program resulted in fewer behavioral interventions, stronger relationships between families and teachers, and happier, healthier students.

With communitty support, the LPS Foundation raised and donated $69,000 to Littleton Public Schools in 2020, allowing the program to expand to serve every elementary school in the district.

"Our students' mental health has always been a top priority, but without support from the Foundation our students would bever have experienced a solution like this.  We are so grateful for the Foundation's work and we're thrilled that all elementary students in the district will have access to this and other leading-edge mental health programs because of the LPS Foundation's fundraising..."  - Kelly Card, Principal at East Elementary
