In light of the COVID-19 outbreak and with LPS’s decision to continue with distance learning for our students, we know that many families will need extra support during these challenging times. Together with the district, the LPS Foundation and Nutrition Services Department are working to rally behind our school community to leverage LPS’s already existing resources to help fulfill the food security needs of our families.
Many of our students rely on school meals each and every school day. During a typical school day, we serve over 5,000 meals!
The food shortage and increased food prices have acutely impacted our most vulnerable families and set them back even further. Our Emergency Feeding Program helps to support our students and families by providing Grab-and-Go meals at over 24 sites across the district. It serves to meet a basic need in our community; providing nutritious meals to children.
If checks are under $500
At this time we are not accepting cash donations.
Where does the funding go?
Your contribution to the Food Security Fund will help to offset the costs of operating our Emergency Feeding Program and ultimately support our students and families.
Who qualifies for the free meals during the Emergency Feeding Program?
All children ages 0-18 in need can pick up the free meals, regardless of enrollment in LPS. The family does not need to qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Only donations greater than $500 are tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation greater than $500 this will need to be done through the LPS Foundation. Please see below for additional information.
What if my donation is greater than $500?
For all donations greater than $500 you will need to contact the LPS Foundation.
Do you accept gifts from donor-advised funds (DAF)?
Can I donate money at the Grab-and-Go Food locations?
No, donations are not accepted at the food pick-up locations to minimize social interactions.
Do you accept food and gift card donations?
At this time we will not be accepting food or gift card donations. We buy through a local distributor and want to ensure consistency and compliance within our program. Something you might not know now is that all foods that are served in school nutrition programs have to meet certain requirements set by the USDA. This is why it is crucial for us to keep our food supply and purchasing as consistent as possible.
Can I volunteer at Grab-and-Go sites?
LPS Nutrition Services is handling all of this in accordance with CDC and USDA guidelines. We are abiding by the recommendation to limit social interaction and do not have any volunteer opportunities at this time.
When and where can LPS’s breakfast and lunch meals be picked up?
We are currently operating at Field Elementary, East Elementary and 21 bus stops across the district. For additional information about locations and pick-up times visit www.lpsnutrition.com.
