Coronavirus Updates

Our Commitment to Health and Safety

Littleton Public Schools continues to work with our local public health agencies as we monitor the global outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The health and safety of all of our students and staff continues to be our first priority in the wake of this evolving situation. We encourage everyone in our school communities to listen to facts and not respond to fear.

In an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), LPS will be closed from Monday, March 16, 2020 through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

If You're Sick, Please Stay Home

As always, we encourage anyone who is feeling ill to stay home, especially if they are experiencing the symptoms listed in the Colorado Department of Public Health & Enviroment Guidelines.

What Can I Do to Keep Myself & Others Healthy?

As is recommended for other respiratory viruses, people can protect themselves and others by practicing everyday actions:

Practice Good Hand Hygiene:Hand washing graphic from CDC

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean hands
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue
  • If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands
  • Do not touch your face with unwashed hands
  • Stay home when sick

Practice Respiratory Etiquette:Respiratory etiquette graphic from CDC

  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home when sick

Protect the Most Vulnerable

  • If you have chronic conditions like lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, cancer or a weakened immune system, avoid unnecessary gatherings and events
  • If you have family or friends who have one of these conditions, do not visit them if you feel sick

Clean and DisinfectClean and disinfect graphic from CDC

  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily
    • This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks
  • If surfaces are dirty, clean them: use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection

Elementary Hand Washing Protocol

In a focused effort to prevent the spread of germs and the COVID-19 virus, LPS is establishing a hand washing protocol for all elementary schools. Early childhood centers, preschools and School Age Child Care programs will adhere to their already established hand washing protocols and add additional hand washing aligned to the elementary protocols. All secondary schools will continue to reinforce good hand hygiene.

Handwashing with soap and water is expected.

  • Students will wash their hands upon arrival at school
  • Students will wash their hands before snack and lunch
  • Students will wash their hands after recess

Suspension of LPS Activities & CHSAA Athletics

In an attempt to slow the spread of Coronavirus, all activities and athletics are suspended at this time. Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) are making similar decisions regarding Coronavirus that affect LPS.

LPS Schools:

  • All school activities and athletics are suspended through April 30.

  • The suspension of spring sports and activities is extended through April 30. This suspension means no practices or competition.

LPS Facility Rentals:

  • All facility rentals from outside groups will be canceled through April 30. Existing permits will be modified, so users are not charged for this cancellation.

Suspension of School-Sponsored Travel

In an abundance of caution for student safety and to limit the potential spreading of the COVID-19 virus, LPS is cancelling school-sponsored travel both out-of-state and internationally for students and staff until further notice.

  • Your school, coach or sponsor should be communicating the cancellation process for any travel that has already been scheduled
  • We will reinstate out-of-state and international travel when we deem it is safer to do so

Cleaning Practices

Enhanced cleaning practices are in place in all of our schools and facilities to help avoid disease transmission.

The custodial staff uses a general disinfectant on all hard surfaces and high touch areas on a nightly basis, in addition to routine environmental cleaning procedures (such as vacuuming, emptying trash, mopping, etc.)

Should there be a confirmed exposure, LPS has specific cleaning protocols that will be implemented.

Guidance on Quarantines and Closures

Due to a major Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, LPS is following the guidance of the Colorado Governor's Office and Tri-County Health Department on quarantines, closures and other health measures needed. Our priority is always on ensuring the safety of students and staff.
