Kindergarten Options

Peabody Elementary School Kindergarten Options

All of our kindergarten options meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of our kindergarten students.  Students in any of our kindergarten programs will have the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills to be prepared for first grade.  The various options allow families to select the program that will best meet the needs of their child and their family.

Extended Day Kindergarten (KED):

  • Five full days a week
  • There is a cost associated with this option
  • Full school day program (8:36 a.m.-3:13 p.m.), five days a week with a licensed classroom teacher.  Additional learning time creates the opportunity for academic challenges and extensions.

Traditional Half-Day Kindergarten combined with K+:

  • Parents have the option to enroll their child in K+ for 2-5 afternoons per week in order to extend the half-day kindergarten program to a full day
  • There is a cost associated with this option
  • During the 2015-2016 school year, we were able to offer K+ for students in both our AM and PM Kindergarten classes.  Each year, we look at family need in order to determine our K+ options for that school year.
  • All District and State academic curriculum objectives are addressed in our half-day programs with a licensed classroom teacher.
  • AM class hours: 8:36-11:35 a.m.   PM class hours: 12:15-3:13 p.m.

Kindergarten Plus (K+):
The K+ classroom is run by a highly qualified paraprofessional.  Activities include additional time for play and some educational reinforcement.

Traditional Half-Day Kindergarten:
AM session 8:36-11:35 a.m.
PM session 12:15-3:13 p.m.

All District and State academic curriculum objectives are addressed in our half-day programs with a licensed classroom teacher.
