POPS Welcome Book

Dear LPCS Parents,

Welcome to another great year at Littleton Preparatory Charter School! We look forward to meeting you personally in the days to come. There are many fun activities planned for this year. This book will give you important information on those activities and other events at LPCS throughout the school year. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions that you may have or to let us know how you would like to get involved in our school.

Welcome!
Littleton Prep POPS/PTO

What is POPS?

Parents of Prep Students (POPS) is the Parent/Teacher Organization at LPCS. We are a group of parents/guardians and staff who volunteer to serve and support LPCS students, teachers and administrators. We help enrich the educational experience of our children, bolster school spirit, and enhance our school community. We work in partnership with teachers and administrators by collaborating our thoughts and ideas on how parents/guardians of students can best support our school. If you have any ideas or suggestions about fundraising, social committees, volunteering, or school enrichment, please feel free to join us at our meetings, the 2nd Monday of every month, for discussion. Our meetings are an open forum for our families to work together to make our school the best it can be. Right now, moving forward with the school, we are very excited to be supportive with the new playground goals. We will be doing everything we can to assist LPCS with building a gorgeous playground our children can enjoy for many years to come.

Thank you for your support of our school, in any way you can give!

Volunteering at Littleton Prep
We Love Our Volunteers!!
There are so many ways to help and we couldn’t do it without you.
As a charter school our families are required to serve 20 hours of volunteering per school year.
This allows us to keep our charter and qualify for government grants. We offer many ways for you to reach this goal, through fundraisers and social events as well as providing much needed help for our wonderful teaching staff.
Some examples are:
Attending a POPS meeting may equal 1 to 1.5 hours
Attending a Governing Board meeting may equal 2 or more hours
Used uniform may equal 2 or more hours
Book Fairs may equal 2 or more hours
Movie night may equal 2 or more hours
Griffin Gallup may equal 3 or more hours
So keep track of those hours and turn them in every month!!

Fundraisers
Each year POPS holds several fundraisers. While the number of fundraisers may be overwhelming at first glance, please know that you don’t need to participate in every one of them. POPS works hard to find fundraisers that will give our school the biggest financial benefit (40-80% profit), as well as a good variety so there is something for everyone! Choose what works best for you and your family, and have fun participating. Also, if you would rather make a 100% tax-deductible contribution to LPCS instead of participating in fundraisers, we will gladly direct you to our new Sustainer Program and provide you with a receipt for your tax records.

You may wonder what the fundraiser money goes for and how our children benefit. All of the funds collected are used to directly benefit the students and LPCS community in a variety of ways, including field trips, class parties, educational support and equipment, and family events. Usually at the end of each year, the LPCS administration provides POPS a Wish List of larger items they would like to have purchased for the school but just can’t work into the budget. In past years, POPS has purchased lockers for the junior high students, new desks, Smart Boards, new netbook computers, new chromebook computers and new folding chairs for events.

Our fundraisers this year will be: Bingo Night, Book Fairs (Fall/Spring), Box Tops, ButterBraids (Fall/Spring), Griffin Gallup, Sustainer Program and Sweet Tomatoes. We still need to raise those much needed funds to enhance the education of our children, so we will need your support for the fundraisers that we are doing this year!!!

Bingo Night: We will be hosting our first Bingo Night on February 27. Come, bring the whole family for a fun filled night. There will be prizes and loads of laughs as we get our Bingo on!

Book Fair: We host two Scholastic Book fairs during the school year: One in the fall and one in the spring. This is an amazing opportunity to build personal libraries, classroom libraries, raise money for POPS and most importantly, encourage a love of books in our children. We even have a computer on site so you can check that very important AR level. Contact: Stacy Oraker at: jsoraker[at]msn[dot]com

Box Tops for Education: Box Tops are an easy way that General Mills and Betty Crocker have created to give money back to schools! Last year we earned over $2,700 with this FREE and EASY fundraiser.
Here’s what you can do to help
• Clip Box Top coupons from favorite products and send them to our school. We will have collection contests throughout the year with prizes going to the top collectors!
• Shop at your favorite online stores through the Box Tops MarketplaceSM (btfe.com/marketplace), and up to 8% of your qualifying purchase will automatically be donated to our school with no additional cost to you!

Sign up to support our school and get a complete list of participating items at the Box Tops website (www.btfe.com). LPCS has earned over $9000 collecting Box Tops!

Butter Braids: This is one of the school’s favorites! Every fall and spring we sell these delicious pastries that are free of trans fats. Butter Braids come in several different flavors, including the new Bavarian Crème with chocolate icing. Last year we added pre-formed cookie dough and it was a huge success. Based in Castle Rock, this local company helps our school and the economy, while giving us a fabulous pastry that’s perfect for any occasion. And always just in time for the holidays.

Griffin Gallup: This year we are stepping out on our own for the 2nd annual fund run. The Griffin Gallup will be held on Sept 25 during the school day and is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This event promotes activity in our youth, builds school spirit and raises funds for our school. Remember to sponsor your child as they compete for the most laps. Every child will run so sponsorship counts. The activity based Prize Day will be on Oct 9.

Sustainer Program: This program allows families to make a tax-deductible donation to the school in a way that suits their individual needs. This allows you to set up regular donations. You choose frequency and amount, the automated program does the rest. We use PayPal for all transactions. Contact: Danielle Urban at: faronurban[at]comcast[dot]net

Sweet Tomato Night:. November 19 is our annual Sweet Tomatoes dinner night. Head on over from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a fun, family friendly dinner. Sweet Tomatoes is donating 20% of the sales to our school. This is one of our more popular events as we usually fill the restaurant with LPCS families. Look for Wednesday folder information and your coupons.

Social Committees
Social committee are a great way to get out there and meet with the other parents at our school. They are opportunities to make connections and new friends. We hope that by bringing families together outside of school we can all work together to help make our school and even better place to educate our children at.

Coffee & Kleenex: This has been an event we have offered for many years. We give new and returning parents a place to come and enjoy coffee and kleenex as they drop their students off on the first day of school. We are happy to provide a place to meet and greet other parents. Please join us in the cafeteria after drop off.

School Enrichment
These committees are very special. They allow us to help our school in a very meaningful and real way. We are able to support the school, staff and families by contributing lunch volunteers and party support. We fill a need in our school that wouldn't be filled any other way.

Giving Tree: Looking for gift ideas for your favorite LPCS teacher/staff member? Just visit The Giving Tree at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a4aa8a72ba31-thegiving1. Similar to the story by Shel Silverstein, you are invited to be a Giving Tree by meeting needs within LPCS classrooms. Please consider donating or gifting items requested by LPCS faculty... it's what they have said they NEED! The list is updated on an on-going basis, so save the link and check back to see the latest needs of our teachers. It is important for you to "sign up" for the item(s) you intend to give, so need updates are current. Names will not be shown. We hope you will reach out to our amazing teachers and give generously. If there is a teacher not listed, encourage them directly to participate - they know about the program, but might need a nudge from you. Or, they may have another avenue for you to see what is needed. Our teachers do SO MUCH for our kids and all things given by our parent/family community adds to your child's quality education! Won't you share your giving spirit?

Room Parent Coordinator: The Room Parent Coordinator encourage all parents to sign up to help with the three class parties we have at LPCS each year: Holiday Party, Valentine’s Day and an End of the Year Party. We make sure each class has at least one head room parent, and put together a list of volunteers for each class. These room parents report to the Coordinator for help and support. If you would like to be a Room Parent or volunteer, contact the Room Parent Coordinator.
Contact: Jamie Brunner at: jamiebrunner[at]gmail[dot]com

Hot Lunch Volunteers: Hot Lunch Volunteers are needed to help serve LPCS students each day. We have the privilege of having the district bring in hot lunches, but are in need of 2 to 3 volunteers every day to help serve our students. This is a great way to see your child interact with their classmates.
Contact: Alice Radic at: radics[at]q[dot]com

Used Uniform Sale: POPS coordinates a USED Uniform Sale twice a year; once in August before school starts and one in the spring. Part of the profits from the Used Uniform Sale will go directly back to the school. Most of the profits go back to the seller so get your gently used uniforms ready for the sale drop-off times.Watch for information throughout the year.
Contact: Sara Carlson at: cams_mommy[at]comcast[dot]net

Hospitality: The Hospitality Committee needs you! If you like to plan events, then we need you on our Committee! If you like to cook, bake or shop you can help by donating food for events that we host here at LPCS such as Back–to-School night, Kindergarten Information night, desserts for the Father/Daughter Dance, and serving our teachers dinner during conferences and staff appreciation luncheons. If you would like to be a part of this team please let us know.
