K-Plus, Lenski’s extended day enrichment program for kindergarten students, is a tuition based program designed to give Kindergarten students an additional half day of enrichment 2, 3, 4, or 5 days a week. K-Plus teachers reinforce the literacy curriculum and academic concepts taught in Kindergarten through a mix of teacher guided and free choice activities that strengthen their gross/fine motor skills, shape their social interactions, and build their confidence as a learner and person.
K-Plus Enrichment Activities
· Daily literature focusing on a letter a week
· Learning the sights and sounds of letters
· Daily writing
· Extending math concepts from kindergarten curriculum
· Reading in groups and independently
· Literature inspired arts and crafts
· Playing in small groups at learning centers to develop problem solving skills and encourage socialization
· Having fun with songs and movement to advance gross-motor development
· Making friends and encouraging physical activity during recess
K-Plus is held daily, Monday through Friday, within the school day. Morning kindergarten students attend K-Plus in the afternoon; afternoon kindergarten students attend K-Plus in the morning. Lunch is eaten between the regular kindergarten program and K-Plus. Students may bring a lunch or purchase lunch in the cafeteria. The K-Plus daily fee is currently $17 per half day. 2016 / 2017 school year the fee will increase to $19 per half day. There is a $20 non-refundable fee due at the time of registration.
Child care for before and after school is also available in Super Stars SACC (School Age Child Care) for an additional cost.
The School Age Child Care Director holds a degree in social work and a Colorado Department of Human Services Certification. She has 25 years experience with movement and music for children, 15 years teaching preschool and has enjoyed working at Lenski for over fifteen years. The K-Plus team consists of teachers and staff with extensive experience in preschool, kindergarten and upper grades. Our staff has been trained in F.A.S.T phonics, Story Grammar Marker and other literacy programs. We also work with a Literacy Coach for special needs.
A typical morning in K-Plus (schedule is repeated in the afternoon 12:50 pm– 3:43 pm)
9:00 - Meet children on the primary playground and bring to classroom
9:10 - Gathering and business of the day, introduce books based on the current topic
9:30 - Literacy, lesson from the daily literature, reading strategies and a related project
10:15 - Wash hands and snack time
10:30 - Sound board, writing, math activities and centers that reinforce kindergarten skills
11:15 - Outside recess
11:25 - Wash hands and have lunch
12:00 Read to Self (Independent Reading time) or educational videos
12:30 - Outside recess and dismissal to Kindergarten teachers at 12:50pm
