APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR FOR A TRADITIONAL CEREMONY
The high school graduation ceremony is a “once in a lifetime” occasion for students to be recognized for achieving the academic requirements as set forth by the school and community. The ceremony itself is a very visible and expensive event. It is a time set aside for honoring the Class of 2016, both collectively and individually. Students wear the academic robes and mortarboards in recognition of their academic achievement. They are dressed alike because they have a common bond with each other and with all former graduates who have worn the cap and gown at the time of their high school graduation. Students are recognized individually when their names are called and when they shake hands with school administrators. As you know, this ceremony marks the completion of thirteen years of public education and the beginning of future adult paths. We are proud to celebrate this special occasion; however, because of the importance attached to the occasion, we ask that our pride be demonstrated with dignity.
Spectators can help greatly by not applauding, cheering, whistling, etc. when a favorite student’s name is called. The noise from such outbursts often obscures the next student’s name. We will move quickly through the names of approximately 400 seniors. It is most helpful if the cheering and applause may be given at one time after the last student’s name is read. The Senior Class and the Heritage staff hope to make our ceremony this year the best ever. We do appreciate your help.
REQUIRED DRESS FOR STUDENTS
In order for the graduates to make the best appearance as a group, we require the following dress:
Boys: White (or light colored) shirts with collars
Dress slacks (long pants, no jeans and no shorts)
Dress shoes (no hiking boots, sandals or tennis shoes)
Girls: Dresses or dress slacks (no jeans, tube tops, casual or cut off shorts)
Dress shoes (no hiking boots, flip flops or tennis shoes)
Since students will be walking rapidly and down a slope, from the gymnasium down to the stadium field, we recommend sturdy, flat shoes.
IF ATTIRE IS DEEMED UNACCEPTABLE, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO RETURN HOME FOR THE DESCRIBED ATTIRE.
Since Littleton High School will be in session there will not be adequate parking in the lot at LHS and parking on the side streets is prohibited by Greenwood Village. Violators will be ticketed or towed. Please follow directions of parking personnel. Your cooperation is appreciated. We strongly encourage spectators to use the shuttle service.
Guests will be shuttled from the HHS parking lot at the south end of the student parking lot (entrance) beginning at 8:40 a.m. on graduation morning. Due to traffic conditions shuttle buses may take up to 1/2 hour to arrive at the stadium. Drop off will be at the south parking lot entrance. Guests will have a short walk to the stadium. Adequate parking for spectators will be available in the Heritage High School student lot. Return shuttle service will begin immediately after the ceremony at the earlier drop-off point. Spectators may experience delays in entering and leaving the parking lot. K-Mart and the southeast corner of Cornerstone Park (at Belleview and Windermere) will also provide parking. Transportation will provide shuttle service beginning at 8:30 a.m. to and from both locations. The last shuttle will leave at 9:45 a.m. *PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO parking at Norgrens as in years past.
Handicap parking at the stadium is on a first come first serve basis. If possible, please utilize the parking at Heritage High School and ride the buses; wheelchair lift bus will be available. Wheelchair access is available at the top of the stadium.
The admission gate for parents will open at 8:00 a.m. Please be aware that entrance to Littleton High School is not allowed and parking is not allowed in the Student /Teacher parking areas of Littleton High School.
Ceremony: Studio 5 professional photographers will take candid photographs of each graduate during the ceremony. A graduate may elect to order a package but is not obligated to do so. Please go on-line to www.studio5schoolportraits.com. Please contact Studio 5 @ (303) 550-4456 if you have any questions. Pictures will be mailed home in June.
Individual Picture Graduation Morning: Studio 5 will be at HHS outside in front of the bronze eagle to take individual pictures of graduates in full regalia beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Families will have an opportunity to take pictures prior to graduation since seniors will be in possession of their robes for several days before the ceremony. If you wish earlier photos of your student, Heritage has caps and gowns that may be checked out from the Activities Office.
Occasionally, students will have all graduation requirements completed by the end of the first semester of their senior year. To apply for early graduation, students need to schedule an appointment with their counselor. At that time a credit check will be done. If the student qualifies, he/she will be given an on-line application to complete. Students taking Advanced Placement courses must complete both semesters. Summer school and on-line course work will be accepted as credit RECOVERY only.
The completed application must also include a letter of explanation to the principal. Your letter must give your reason for early graduation, your plans for second semester, and whether or not you plan to participate in the graduation ceremony in May. All applications must be signed by parents, as well as by the student. The option for early graduation is not open to transfer students who enroll at Heritage during their senior year.
If the request is approved, the student will be permitted to graduate early. All early graduates must attend first semester final exam week and successfully complete that semester. Diplomas are prepared once per year. All graduates will receive their official diplomas at the graduation ceremony in May when they return their gowns.
