Violin (Chamber Orchestra)

The violin (chamber orchestra) program is an exciting opportunity for students to study chamber string instruments and find the joy that comes through music-making as soloists and as part of an ensemble.  This program requires private lessons, group classes, and frequent performances so students can showcase their progress.  Chamber orchestra students develop life-long skills that will have a positive and profound impact on other aspects of their lives!

Please note the following expectations for chamber orchestra students and their parents:

  • One-year commitment—no exceptions!
  • One parent or guardian must attend a weekly private lesson or after school group class with our teacher (see below).  No refunds are issued for missed lessons.  Payments for lessons are made at the beginning of each month.
  • Rent an instrument (Grades 1-4).  No rental fee for 5th graders.  See below for more information.
  • Practice the instrument.
  • Attend all performances.

Group Lessons—We provide group lessons twice a week during the school day.  Beginning musicians (primary and intermediate) will be in the Level 1 class on Mondays and Thursdays.  Our continuing students who have been in the program over the past two, three, four, and five years will all be in the Level 2, 3, 4, & 5 classes (primary and intermediate) on Tuesdays and Fridays.

One week per month, studio group classes will be held after school on days corresponding with the school class schedule. Calendar info will be provided by Alexander Raab for studio class weeks.

Private Lessons—Parents of all musicians, regardless of level, will be required to attend 3 private lessons each month with our teacher.  The membership charge for 30-minute private lessons and studio classes each month will be $100  This amount is paid at the beginning of the month and is non-refundable.  If the instructor cancels a lesson, it will be re-scheduled.   We will have financial assistance available for families demonstrating need.  Students will be asked to leave the chamber orchestra program if the parent misses more than 3 private lessons per semester or does not remain current with his/her private lesson payments.

Wednesday Ensemble—Full Rehearsal Day—All chamber orchestra students will participate in a Wednesday class that features the fundamentals of music reading and theory as well as full rehearsal time for all groups.

Instrument Rental—Each family is responsible for renting an instrument (Grades 1-4).  No rental fees are charged for 5th graders.  Please do not purchase an instrument without consulting with our orchestra teacher.   Centennial Academy has a limited number of instruments available to loan to students for the school year.  Once our inventory is exhausted, families are responsible for renting their own instruments from a music store.  These music stores are nearby:  Kolacny Music on Broadway & Jewell or Music & Arts
