Congratulations to Matthew Yohannes for qualifying for the NSDA national tournament in Birmingham, Alabama in June. His past qualifications and achievements have led him to be selected to compete in World Schools debate along with ten other students from different high schools in our area. World Schools is a unique format of debate that combines British Parliamentary debate and the Australian-Asian debate format. Each debate comprises eight speeches delivered by two teams of three members, representing the Proposition and Opposition sides. The first six speeches are eight minutes in duration, with each team then finishing up by giving a four-minute concluding reply speech. Qualifying for the tournament is very difficult, and he will be the first from his team to attend the national tournament in over 5 years!
