GT Electives

What do G/T Students do in Elective Courses?

Our electives courses are designed to provide all students with the following learning opportunities:

  • real-life problem-solving in a variety of disciplines
  • participation in high-level discussion & thinking activities
  • teambuilding/leadership
  • independent research
  • use of the latest technology & web tools for communication & research
  • information literacy
  • affective education: organization, character, and self-advocacy 

Sixth Grade:

G/T Seminar: Every G/T student takes this class first or second quarter. Time is provided for G/T students to come together, share concerns, enliven passions, and surmount challenges as they navigate their first year of middle school.  As students transition from fifth to sixth grade and elementary to middle school, Mrs. Hamill answers questions and facilitates activities which help students answer the question:  

"How can I become a more..."

  • SELF-DIRECTED LEARNER
  • QUALITY PRODUCER
  • COLLABORATIVE AND CONTRIBUTING WORKER
  • COMPLEX THINKER, AND
  • EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR? 

Literature Enrichment: Many G/T students are enrolled in this elective which expands their thinking around the genre of science fiction through art, poetry, short stories and novels. Technology is infused into the class activities and students use Google Maps to infer and track the characters' journeys.
