About LPS Driver Ed

Our Driver Education Course is broken into two different phases: The Classroom Phase and The Driving Phase.

The Classroom Phase

The classroom phase consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction. Students will be given tests & quizzes throughout the class and will also have regular homework assignments. Students will be given a thorough state practice test & will be better prepared to take the permit test at home on their own (new convenience) or take it at the DMV. Students will obtain an Affidavit of Completion of the driver education classroom course.

Once enrolled, attendance is MANDATORY! Absences can be difficult to make up and will delay moving on to the driving phase.

The Driving Phase (Behind the Wheel)

The driving phase consists of 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction, and will begin after the classroom phase has been successfully completed. Please call the Driver Education office for your driving instructor assignment and contact information. All driving is done in automatic transmission cars.

A $50 fee will be imposed for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, or for arriving for a session unprepared to drive (ex: no permit, glasses if required).

Grades
This course provides three (.25) elective credits for Littleton Public Schools students. The student may choose standard grading, A, B, C, or Pass/Fail. A passing grade is 80 percent or higher. Upon completion of both phases, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and a grade report will be mailed home. Schools will be notified and grades will be recorded on transcripts at the end of the semester in which the course was completed. This only applies to LPS students.

Age Requirements
Students must be 14 years and 6 months old to attend the classroom phase. Before driving on the street, students must pass the classroom phase, be at least 15 years old, and have a minor's instruction permit.
